Washington, DC – In light of recent legislative developments, we express our strong support for measures that prioritize public safety by addressing the presence of illegal immigrant sex offenders in our communities. It is crucial that Congress supports legislation that ensures the protection of all citizens, particularly the most vulnerable among us.
The proposed bill, HR 7909, aims to enhance accountability and implement stricter guidelines to prevent dangerous individuals from exploiting loopholes to evade justice. Our communities deserve to be safe, and this legislation is a vital step toward that goal.
It is particularly troubling that virtually every Democratic Congressional member voted against HR 7909, including Illinois representatives:
– Jonathan Jackson (D-1)
– Robin Kelly (D-2)
– Delia Ramirez (D-3)
– “Chuy” Garcia (D-4)
– Mike Quigley (D-5)
– Sean Casten (D-6)
– Danny Davis (D-7)
– Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-8)
– Jan Schakowsky (D-9)
– Brad Schneider (D-10)
– Bill Foster (D-11)
– Lauren Underwood (D-14)
In total, 158 Democrats voted against this critical bill aimed at deporting illegal immigrants who commit sex crimes. This measure ultimately passed with 215 Republican votes and 51 Democratic votes, shockingly showing a non-unanimous effort to protect its constituents. The opposition from these Democratic members, including Raja Krishnamoorthi, demonstrates a lack of commitment to the safety of our families and neighborhoods.
We urge the Senate to pass this bill unanimously and encourage our representatives across this nation to support similar legislation if it comes forward. By doing so, they will demonstrate a commitment to both justice and public safety, ensuring that our communities remain secure for everyone.
